Ralph Waldo Emerson humorously joked, “There is one other reason for dressing well, namely that dogs respect it, and will not attack you in good clothes.” While we wish that were true, en verite 80% of the hundreds of pit bulls seized and killed every year by animal control in places like Prince George’s County, Maryland, are hunted down because of a breed-specific ban; despite the fact that they are “nice, family dogs.”
There is so much to celebrate in Chicago because unlike those in Maryland, who have experienced having their dogs put down, or donated to families in other areas, we are free to choose which four-legged loves become la famille. But this might not always be so if we allow the ugly discrimination of Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) to creep into our beloved city.
As we continue to fight for the freedom to choose, and more uncontrolled bites happen, the hope that all breeds will be treated equally continues to subside and we are faced with more financial obstacles that require us to repair the hearts and minds of injured pets, innocent bystanders, and former pet owners, who’ve lost their dogs to these vicious laws.
With the donation of each dollar and event that we host, such as the Diamond Dogs Savoir-faire Pooch Ball, which is slated for August 15, 2015, Tam & Wags strives to educate others about the dangers of BSL and how we can keep it from rattling Chicago communities. So it is with TRUTH, BEAUTY, FREEDOM, and LOVE that we invite all responsible dog owners and businesses to participate in a HUNKADOLA fashion show with their pooches and canine friends. Additional activities for the day include:
•Scheduled training sessions and demonstrations •A delightful lunch for all patrons and each pooch •Grooming services, which will be offered at an additional cost
Cash donations, in addition to any other items that you believe will make this event a success, will graciously be accepted. Participation from your organization could help us make this dream event a reality, and for that, we would always be grateful. Thank you so much for giving us your valuable time. We look forward to hearing from you.

A REBECCA EVERLENE TRUST COMPANY PROGRAM
We love our dogs and walk them around the neighborhood every evening. Dylanger and Dakota are Pit Bulls, so naturally, when people see them, they automatically think they are going to attack. Realizing this, we started having the dogs sit on command whenever a person began to approach us, and only proceeded with our walk when we knew that others were comfortable. From that point on, reactions from people were very different. Now, those same people who were initially afraid of Dylanger and Dakota, often ask if they can come pet them, and say “What obedient dogs.”
That experience taught us a lot about people and perceptions. We believe that if people had better experiences with Pit Bulls, maybe the City of Chicago could avoid becoming a place that has Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). If a bill like this is passed in Chicago, Pit Bulls won’t be the only dogs that are affected. Rottweilers, Dobermans, American Bull Dogs, and any mix of these breeds will also fall into the same category. Our goal is to show pet owners how to help others see these dogs in a better light and make them a productive part of Chicago households through basic training and behavior modification.
Our program is different from other companies because we don’t just train dogs, but invite the owner along for the journey as well.
